Shepherding In A Pandemic

As uncertainty around the Coronavirus pandemic increases, many are being advised from a national level to avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, some states are even employing “shelter in place” mandates.

For many church leaders, this is brand new territory, as you may not have developed a strong online presence yet or may not be comfortable with social media and such. However, there are things you can do now to stay connected to the flock. This is a time of crisis; we believe it’s critical that the Ecclesia stays connected. At minimum, you should be using Facebook Live or some mechanism to preach and teach on Sundays or whenever you would normally hold regular gatherings.

1. Right now your online presence, is your presence. Leverage social media, email, phone calls, text messages to stay connected to your congregation. Don't just share information but connect with people.

2. Stay true to your online presence. If you are normally speaking from a pulpit or stage, do your best to keep to this practice. Even though your congregation is not able to join you in the building, many are still looking for consistency in their worship experience.

3. Leverage blogs and written materials to stay connected. Many people are furloughed from work. They need content and connection from you. Some will even rekindle their relationship with Christ during this time.

4. Host a daily live devotional or prayer. Work hard to build faith during this stressful time. Speak the word!

5. Host prayer calls regularly. Setup a prayer line. Provide a mechanism for people to submit online or live prayer requests.
