Genesis 6 tells of the corruption God saw on the earth and His plan to destroy man from the face of the earth and preserve the righteous. Bad news for the wicked but good news that God has a remnant, Noah and his family. The Bible describes Noah as perfect in his generation, that he walked with God, and that Noah found (unearned favor) grace with God. God begins to speak to Noah that He sees and that He will destroy the earth and the wicked. God goes on in the conversation and gives Noah instructions for preservation. Build an ark. Build it like this. Gather your family and these living things (two of every kind).
My favorite part in this passage is that God tells Noah, that He will establish His covenant with him. He promised protection and provision for Noah and his family by way of the ark.
The flood came, it did rain for 40 days and nights and water were on the earth for 150 days. Everything outside the ark died.
Kingdom Thoughts to ponder:
- I wonder what Noah experienced and endured as a righteous man living in a corrupt world? Yet we know from the scriptures, he did not let the world infiltrate him. Holiness is still in style in the Kingdom of God. Live for the glory that’s set before us not for the temporal thrill the world has to offer.
- Noah walked with God. People who walk with God, talk to God, and God talks back. Jeremiah 33:3 says: ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and [a]mighty things, which you do not know.’ If you want knowledge and wisdom, go to the Source. If you want to see change in the world, pray for it. Intercession is our Kingdom responsibility.
- Genesis 8 begins “And God remembered Noah...” Noah built the ark, he built it when and how God told him to, Noah placed who God him to in the ark, and God protected and provided for Noah and his family just like He said He would. Obedience will always preserve us, and God will never forget us.
- This word ‘ark’ in terms of Noah’s Ark is ‘ta-va.’ It’s refers to a small cradle, one for a priceless helpless baby. Another example would be the cradle baby Moses was in later in the scriptures. He cradles us into safety from the floods and storms of life, hides us, and sends a fresh wind to blow the flood waters back when He has completed His purposes. The point is: in a huge cruel world, God deems you and I worth saving. We are saved by God’s grace, His unearned favor. Knowledge of God doesn’t save, faith in Him does. I invite you to come into and live in the Ark by faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. You are worth saving!
- When we make the Ark our dwelling place, we can rest assure there will be glory after this. No matter what we are experiencing, look up, look for the rainbow, there is a promise of healing, deliverance, and protection. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18 Hope in the Lord!
Go be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth! There will be glory after this!!!
